How to rotate an image

  1. Drop the image on the box above.
  2. Click ⟲ Left or ⟳ Right to rotate by 90°. Click twice to turn it upside down (180°).
  3. To fix a tilted horizon, move the Straighten slider in 0.5° steps; the thirds grid helps you line it up.
  4. Drag a crop box to trim the transparent corners after straightening, then click Download.

Why photos end up sideways

Phones and cameras often save the image pixels in landscape orientation and store a separate "rotate me" flag in the EXIF data. Some websites, email programs and older software ignore the flag, so the photo appears sideways. This tool displays the photo the right way up, lets you rotate it as needed, and saves a new file with the rotation applied to the pixels themselves, so it looks correct everywhere.

Rotating by 90° steps is lossless in terms of pixels. Rotating by other angles requires resampling, which is done with high-quality smoothing, and enlarges the canvas so no corner is cut off. Save as PNG to keep the transparent corners or JPEG to fill them with white.

All processing happens in your browser; your photo is never uploaded.

FAQ

How do I rotate a picture 90 degrees?

Click Right to rotate 90° clockwise or Left for counter-clockwise, then Download.

How do I straighten a crooked photo?

Use the Straighten slider until the horizon matches a grid line, then crop away the empty corners.

Does rotating reduce quality?

Not for 90° steps. Small angles resample the image, which is barely visible, and JPEG is saved at high quality.
