When to mirror a photo
Front cameras on many phones save selfies mirrored, so text on a T-shirt or a sign reads backwards. Flipping horizontally fixes that. Designers flip images so a person looks towards the text on a page rather than away from it, and to create symmetrical patterns. Flipping vertically is useful for reflections, scanned documents that were fed upside down, and craft projects such as iron-on transfers, which must be printed mirrored.
A horizontal flip is not the same as rotating 180°: flipping reverses left and right like a mirror, while rotating turns the whole picture around. Flip both horizontally and vertically to get the same result as a 180° rotation.
Flipping moves pixels without changing them, so there is no quality loss in PNG. The image is processed in your browser and never uploaded.
FAQ
How do I un-mirror a selfie?
Click Flip H once. Text in the photo will read the right way round.
What is the difference between flip and rotate?
Flip mirrors the image; rotate turns it. A vertical flip makes text read backwards upside down, while a 180° rotation keeps it readable when turned.
How do I mirror an image for an iron-on transfer?
Click Flip H, download the image and print it. Many transfer papers require a mirrored print.
