Image Compressor: Compress JPEG, PNG and WebP images in bulk, or to a target size. Input: Files from your device and values you enter. Output: Results shown on the page and a downloaded file. Privacy: Runs in your browser: inputs and files stay on your device and are not uploaded.
How to compress images online
- Drop one or more images on the box above, or tap it to choose files.
- Pick an output format. Same as original keeps JPEG as JPEG and PNG as PNG; WebP and AVIF are usually the smallest. AVIF takes longer to make, especially for large photos.
- Lower the quality slider for smaller JPEG and WebP files, or set a max width to shrink large photos.
- To hit a size limit, type a target size in KB. The tool searches for the highest quality that fits.
- Download each file, or all of them at once as a ZIP.
Results update when you change an option, so you can compare sizes quickly. The table shows the size before and after, and how much you saved.
Which settings should I use?
For photos, JPEG or WebP at 70–85% quality looks almost identical to the original and is often 60–90% smaller. Resizing helps even more: a 4000 pixel phone photo shown at 1200 pixels on a website carries over ten times more pixels than needed. For screenshots, logos and graphics with flat colors, use PNG with 256 colors. This picks a palette tuned to the image (tick Dither smooth gradients if skies or shadows show bands), and often cuts the file size by half or more while keeping transparency.
Transparent areas become the background color you choose when saving as JPEG, because JPEG has no transparency.
Private by design
Runs in your browser. Your files are not uploaded. JPEG files are encoded with MozJPEG, PNG files are optimised with OxiPNG, and AVIF files are made with libavif, all open-source encoders that load into the page when you first need them. If one cannot load, your browser's built-in encoder is used instead. Re-encoding also removes EXIF metadata such as GPS location, and photos taken sideways are saved upright.
Will compressing reduce image quality?
JPEG and WebP are lossy, so some detail is discarded, but at 75% or more the difference is hard to see. Lossless PNG keeps every pixel exactly. Palette PNG keeps sharp edges but can show banding in smooth photo gradients.
Why did my file get bigger?
An image that was already well optimised, or a photo converted to PNG, can grow. Use a lower quality, JPEG or WebP for photos, or set a target size.
Can I compress an image to an exact size like 100 KB?
Yes. Enter the target in KB. The tool lowers quality first and only shrinks the dimensions if the lowest quality is still too big.
Does it work with HEIC photos from an iPhone?
Most browsers cannot decode HEIC. Set your iPhone camera to "Most Compatible" or export the photo as JPEG first.
