How to remove the background from a photo
- Drop a photo onto the box: a portrait, product shot, pet, car or logo. The first time, the AI model downloads once (the size is shown above).
- The background is removed automatically in a few seconds. Drag the Compare slider to check the result against the original.
- Keep it transparent, or put the subject on white (for marketplaces), a colour, or a blurred version of the original background.
- Fix any misses with the touch-up brush: Erase removes leftover background, Restore brings back parts of the subject. Adjust edge softness for hair and fur.
- Tick Crop to the subject if you want tight framing, then download a transparent PNG (or a JPG with your new background).
Free, private and full resolution
Online background removers usually upload your photo to a server, shrink the free download to a preview size and charge credits for full resolution. Here the segmentation model (ORMBG, an open model under the Apache 2.0 licence) runs in your browser with WebAssembly, so your photo stays on your device and the cut-out is saved at the original resolution, with no watermark and no account.
It works best with a clear subject that stands out from the background: people, products on a table, animals, vehicles and furniture. Fine hair, glass, smoke and see-through fabric are hard for every automatic tool; soften the edge or use the brush to tidy them. For online shops, a white background and a square crop meet the image rules of Amazon, eBay, Etsy and Shopify, and transparent PNGs are ideal for thumbnails, slides, stickers and design work.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. Only the AI model is downloaded (once, then cached by your browser). The photo is processed on your device.
Is the result full resolution?
Yes, up to 4096 pixels on the long side, with no watermark.
How do I get a white background for Amazon or eBay?
Choose White, tick Crop to the subject if you like, and download the JPG.
Why is the first photo slow?
The model (44 or 88 MB) downloads the first time. After that each photo takes a few seconds, depending on your device.
