How the Diwali countdown works

  1. The big number shows the days left until Diwali; the boxes below count down the hours, minutes and seconds live.
  2. Tap Share, Download card or Story size to post the countdown, or Copy link to send it.
  3. Open Change the event to count down to something else, such as a party or trip.

When is Diwali?

Diwali (Deepavali), the Hindu festival of lights, is celebrated on the new moon night (Amavasya) of the month of Kartika, usually in October or November. The main day, Lakshmi Puja, falls on 8 November 2026, 29 October 2027, 17 October 2028, 5 November 2029 and 26 October 2030. Because the lunar day can begin in the afternoon, some regions and calendars observe it a day earlier or later; check your local panchang.

The festival spans five days, from Dhanteras to Bhai Dooj, and is also celebrated by Jains, Sikhs (as Bandi Chhor Divas) and some Buddhists. Families clean and decorate their homes, light diyas and rangoli, share sweets and visit relatives, so it is one of the busiest travel and shopping periods in India.
