How to make a profile picture

  1. Drop a photo of yourself, ideally with your face well lit and not too small.
  2. Drag the photo to centre your face and zoom in until your head and shoulders fill the circle.
  3. Add a coloured ring (green "open to work" style, purple "hiring" style, an Instagram-like gradient and more) and a background colour or gradient that shows around the photo.
  4. Choose a size and download a transparent PNG ready for LinkedIn, Slack, Discord, X, GitHub or your email signature.

Tips for a great profile photo

Profile pictures are shown tiny, often 40โ€“100 pixels across, so your face should fill most of the frame: crop from just above the head to the top of the shoulders. Look at the camera, use soft, even light from a window, and choose a plain background. A consistent picture across platforms helps people recognise you. Coloured rings add a subtle frame that stands out in lists and comment threads; the "open to work" and "hiring" colours echo LinkedIn's frames without copying their text, so they work anywhere.

The export is a square PNG with transparency outside the circle, which every platform accepts; most crop to a circle themselves, so the ring and background stay visible. Uploads are typically resized by the platform, so 800 px is plenty. Everything happens in your browser, and your photo is never uploaded.

What size should a profile picture be?

At least 400 ร— 400 px; 800 px is a safe all-round choice. LinkedIn recommends 400 px or more.

Can I remove the background?

This tool does not cut out people. Use a photo with a plain background, or a transparent PNG with the background colour options.

Is the image square or round?

The file is square with a transparent area outside the circle, so it looks round anywhere.
