How to make a Polaroid-style photo

  1. Drop a photo on the box.
  2. Choose the film: classic Polaroid (square), Instax Mini, Instax Square or Instax Wide. The frame proportions match the real film.
  3. Drag the photo to position it in the window and use Zoom to crop tighter.
  4. Write a caption in handwriting style, choose the frame and pen colors, and add a tilt and shadow for a scrapbook look.
  5. Download a high-resolution PNG. With the shadow on, the background is transparent, so you can place it on any story or collage.

Real instant-film proportions

A Polaroid 600 or i-Type print is 88 × 107 mm with a 79 × 79 mm square image and the famous wide bottom border for writing on. Fujifilm Instax Mini is a credit-card-sized 54 × 86 mm with a 46 × 62 mm image; Instax Square is 72 × 86 mm (62 × 62 mm image) and Instax Wide 108 × 86 mm (99 × 62 mm image). The frame here uses those measurements, so a printed copy at the exported size looks right next to real prints.

Instant film color softens the contrast, warms the tones slightly and darkens the corners, like the chemistry of real instant film. Captions use a handwriting font when it can be loaded, or a script font already on your device.

The photo stays on your device: everything is drawn in your browser.

Can I print it at real size?

Yes. The PNG is exported at 20 pixels per millimetre (about 500 dpi); print at that resolution for true-to-life size.

Why is the background checkered?

That shows transparency. With the drop shadow on, the area around the frame is transparent in the PNG.

Can I use emoji in the caption?

Yes, emoji are drawn with your device's emoji font.
