How to blur or pixelate part of an image

  1. Drop a photo or screenshot on the box above.
  2. Choose an effect: Pixelate (mosaic), Blur, or a solid Black bar.
  3. Drag a box over each face, licence plate, name, address or password you want to hide. Add as many areas as you need, and use Undo area to remove the last one.
  4. Raise the Strength until nothing can be read. Tick Apply to the whole image to blur or pixelate everything.
  5. Click Download. The original file is not changed.

Which effect is safest?

For text such as account numbers, emails or passwords, use the black bar. Light blur and small pixel blocks can sometimes be reversed or guessed, especially for short numbers in a known font. If you pixelate text, use a high strength so each block covers several characters. For faces in a crowd or children in a photo, strong pixelation or blur is enough and looks less harsh than black boxes.

Unlike drawing a shape in some editors, the effect here is baked into the pixels of the new file: there are no layers to remove, and the downloaded image has no EXIF data that could reveal the original location.

Nothing is uploaded

Censoring an image only makes sense if the original stays private. This tool works entirely in your browser with the Canvas API. The image never leaves your device, so it is safe for screenshots of bank statements, IDs, chats and medical documents.

Can pixelation be undone?

The pixels are replaced, so the original detail is gone. With weak pixelation of short text, however, people can sometimes guess the content by comparison. Use strong settings or a black bar for sensitive text.

How do I blur faces in a photo?

Choose Blur or Pixelate, then drag a box over each face. For group photos, add one box per face.

Does it work on screenshots from my phone?

Yes. PNG screenshots can be saved as PNG to keep text and edges crisp everywhere outside the hidden areas.
