How to remove vocals from a song

  1. Drop a stereo song (MP3, WAV or M4A).
  2. Keep "Keep bass below" around 120–200 Hz so the bass and kick drum stay full.
  3. Preview; lower the strength if the result sounds too hollow, then download.

How it works, and its limits

In most commercial mixes, the lead vocal is recorded once and placed in the exact centre, so it is identical in the left and right channels. Subtracting one channel from the other cancels anything that is identical, removing the vocal while keeping instruments that are panned to the sides. Bass and kick drums are usually centred too, so the tool adds back the low frequencies of the centre signal to keep the groove.

The result depends on the recording: reverb and stereo effects on the vocal leave a ghostly trace, centred instruments (snare, bass solos) are reduced as well, and mono songs or live recordings cannot be separated this way. AI stem-separation tools do better but need heavy models or servers; this method runs instantly in your browser and never uploads your music.

FAQ

Why can I still hear the vocals faintly?

Reverb and backing vocals are often stereo, so they do not cancel completely.

Does it work on mono files?

No. It needs a stereo recording with a centred vocal.

Can I extract just the vocals?

Not with this method; it removes the centre rather than isolating it.
