How to make 8D audio
- Drop a song. Put on headphones.
- Set how many seconds one full rotation takes (6–10 seconds is the typical 8D feel), the stereo width and a little room reverb.
- Preview, then download as WAV or MP3.
What is 8D audio?
"8D audio" is an internet name for music that seems to move around the listener. It is made by slowly panning the whole mix from left to right and back with a low-frequency oscillator, often adding reverb so it sounds like it is in a room around you. On headphones, the brain interprets the changing balance between the ears as movement. There are no actual eight dimensions; the effect is a stylised form of spatial audio.
It works best with simple, atmospheric tracks and slow rotation. On speakers, much of the effect is lost because both ears hear both speakers. The conversion runs offline in your browser with the Web Audio API.
FAQ
Do I need headphones?
Yes. Without headphones the circling effect mostly disappears.
What rotation speed sounds best?
Around 8 seconds per circle for most songs.
Is 8D audio the same as Dolby Atmos?
No. Atmos uses real 3D positioning; 8D is a panning effect.
