How to use the spacebar counter
- Pick a duration: 5, 10 or 30 seconds. The timer starts with your first press of the space bar.
- Hammer the space bar as fast as you can. Every press is counted live, and holding the key down does not count, so no auto-repeat cheating.
- When time is up you get your total presses, presses per second and a chart of your speed through the run. On a phone, tap the big button instead.
How fast can you press the space bar?
Most people manage 5 to 7 presses per second over ten seconds; strong gamers reach 8 to 10, and dedicated players using two fingers or alternating hands can go even higher. Speed tends to drop in the last few seconds as your hand tires, which the graph makes easy to see. Spacebar speed matters in rhythm games, button-mashing quick-time events and some Minecraft and platformer techniques.
For your best score, rest your wrist, use the fingertip of your strongest finger or alternate thumbs, and keep movements small. Mechanical keyboards with light switches help. Your scores stay on your device and are never uploaded.
