How to make a tier list

  1. Give your list a title, such as "Best pizza toppings" or "Every Pixar movie".
  2. Add items: type names separated by commas, or press Add images to upload pictures from your device.
  3. Drag each item into a tier: S for the best, then A, B, C and D. On a phone you can also tap an item and then tap the tier you want. With a keyboard, focus an item and use the arrow keys.
  4. Tap a tier label to rename it, add more tiers with + Tier, then download a PNG to share in a group chat or on social media.

What is a tier list?

A tier list ranks things into groups rather than a strict 1-to-N order. The labels come from Japanese school grading and video games, where S (special or superior) sits above A. The format became a hugely popular internet meme because it is quick to make, easy to read at a glance and perfect for friendly arguments about food, films, games, characters, football clubs or anything else.

Teachers use tier lists for discussion activities ("rank these causes of the First World War"), teams use them to prioritise features or ideas, and creators use them as content for videos and posts. You can rename tiers to anything: "Love it / Like it / Meh / Never again", years, or emoji.

Private by design

Images you add are resized and kept only in your browser, and the PNG is drawn on your device; nothing is uploaded. Your list is saved locally, so you can come back and keep editing.

What does S tier mean?

S tier is the top rank, above A: the very best items. It is thought to come from "special" or the Japanese grading system.

Can I use pictures?

Yes. Add images from your device; they are cropped to squares. They are not uploaded anywhere.

Does it work on phones?

Yes. Drag with your finger, or tap an item and then tap a tier to move it.
