Blue or Green Test

Where is your boundary between blue and green?

Is this colour blue or green?

How the blue or green test works

  1. A colour fills the box. Decide quickly whether you would call it blue or green and tap the button (or press B or G). There are no right answers.
  2. After eight colours the test narrows down your personal boundary: the hue at which a colour stops being green and starts being blue for you.
  3. Your result shows the boundary in degrees on the colour wheel and where it falls compared with other people, with the two colours closest to your boundary.
  4. Share your card or link. Friends who open it see your boundary and can compare theirs.

Why people disagree about turquoise

Colours do not come with names attached: the light reaching your eyes is a continuous range of wavelengths, and where you draw the line between "blue" and "green" depends on language, culture and experience as much as on your eyes. Some languages, such as Vietnamese, Welsh and Japanese historically, use one word for both blue and green. Researchers call colour words like these "grue". Studies of colour naming show that English speakers place the boundary at slightly different points, and the same turquoise can look clearly blue to one person and clearly green to another.

The test uses a binary search, as in the viral ismy.blue experiment, so each answer halves the range of possible boundaries. The comparison curve is an approximation of how boundaries spread across many people, centred near 175° on the HSL colour wheel. Your screen also matters: brightness, night-shift filters and colour profiles shift how hues look, so try it on another device and compare.

This is a fun perception test, not a colour vision diagnosis. Answers stay in your browser.

Does this test check for colour blindness?

No. It measures where you put the word boundary between two colours. People with normal colour vision disagree widely. Use a colour blindness test for that.

Why did I get a different result on my phone?

Screens show colours differently, and blue-light or night modes shift hues. Turn those off and use full brightness for the fairest result.

What does the degree number mean?

It is the hue on the HSL colour wheel, where 120° is pure green and 240° is pure blue. A higher boundary means you call more colours green.
