Reaction Time Test

How fast are your reflexes?

How to test your reaction time

  1. Tap or click the box to start. It turns red: wait.
  2. When it turns green, tap as fast as you can. Tapping too early counts as a false start.
  3. After five rounds you get your average and fastest time. Try the F1 mode, where five red lights come on one by one and you react when they all go out, just like a Formula 1 start.

What is a good reaction time?

Simple visual reaction time for most people is about 200–300 milliseconds, with an average around 250 ms in online tests. Under 200 ms is excellent, and top esports players and sprinters regularly react in 150–180 ms. Formula 1 drivers typically get away in about 200 ms after the lights go out, which includes moving their foot; anything faster than 100 ms counts as a jump start in athletics because it is thought to be anticipation rather than reaction.

Your result also depends on your device. Screens add a few to tens of milliseconds of delay, wireless mice and Bluetooth keyboards add more, and phone touchscreens are usually slower than a wired mouse, so compare scores on the same setup. Reaction time improves with sleep, focus and warm-up, and slows with tiredness, alcohol and age. Your best average is saved in this browser only.

What is the average human reaction time?

About 250 milliseconds for a simple visual signal, though it ranges from roughly 150 to 300 ms between people.

Why is my score slower on a phone?

Touchscreens and phone displays add latency. A wired mouse and a fast monitor give lower times.

How do F1 starts work?

Five red lights come on one per second, then after a random pause they all go out together. That moment is the start.
