Upside Down Text

Flip text upside down to copy and paste

How to write upside down

  1. Type your message normally.
  2. The upside-down version is highlighted at the top: the order is reversed and every letter is replaced with a flipped look-alike, so it reads correctly when the screen is turned around.
  3. Copy it and paste it into a post, comment, bio or chat.

How it works

Text has no rotate setting, so the generator uses Unicode characters that happen to look like rotated letters: ɐ for a, ǝ for e, ɥ for h, ʎ for y and ¡ for !. Reversing the order completes the effect, because the last letter becomes the first when you turn the page round. Capital letters and numbers have flipped versions too, though a few, such as the upside-down capital Q, use the closest available shape.

Upside-down text is a classic joke for April Fools' Day, "Australian" posts, birthday messages and puzzles. It works on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X, WhatsApp and Discord because it is ordinary text. Screen readers and search cannot understand it, so avoid it for anything important. The same page also offers mirror writing and plain backwards text.

FAQ

Can people read it without turning their phone?

With some effort. Most people tilt their head or rotate the screen, which is half the fun.

Does it work in Instagram bios?

Yes. It is ordinary Unicode text.

Why do a few letters look slightly off?

Some letters have no exact flipped twin in Unicode, so the closest shape is used.
