How upside-down and mirror text work
There is no "upside down" setting in plain text, so the converter reverses the order of the characters and swaps each one for a Unicode character that looks like it has been rotated by 180 degrees, such as ɐ for a, ǝ for e and ¡ for !. Mirror writing swaps letters for look-alike reversed characters, like Leonardo da Vinci's famous notebooks. Because these are ordinary Unicode characters, the result works in social media posts, usernames, chats and comments. A few letters have no perfect flipped twin, so the closest available character is used.
Reversing is done by user-perceived characters, so emoji, flags and accented letters stay intact instead of breaking into pieces, a common problem with simpler reverse-text tools.
Uses range from jokes and puzzles to checking palindromes, creating riddles for escape rooms and children's games, and reversing lists. Everything happens in your browser.
How do I write upside down on Instagram or TikTok?
Type your text here, copy the Upside down version and paste it into your caption, bio or comment.
Can people read upside-down text?
Yes, by turning their phone around. Screen readers, however, read the special characters oddly, so avoid it for important information.
What is a palindrome?
A word or phrase that reads the same backwards, such as "racecar" or "Was it a car or a cat I saw". Reverse it here to check.
