Remove Line Breaks

Join broken lines into flowing paragraphs

How to remove line breaks

  1. Paste text with unwanted line breaks, such as text copied from a PDF, an email or a narrow web column.
  2. By default, lines inside each paragraph are joined while blank lines between paragraphs are kept, so the structure survives.
  3. To make everything one continuous line, tick "Remove all line breaks" as well. Then copy the clean text.

Why PDF text has broken lines

PDFs store text line by line as it was laid out on the page, so copying a paragraph gives you a hard line break at the end of every printed line. Pasted into a document or form, it looks ragged and will not reflow. Plain-text emails and old documents wrapped at 72 or 80 characters cause the same problem.

Joining lines by hand is tedious; this tool joins them and fixes the double spaces that joining creates. Keeping paragraph breaks is usually what you want for documents, while removing all breaks is useful for spreadsheet cells, form fields, code strings and subtitles. Other options on the page fix hyphenated words split across lines, smart quotes and hidden characters, which often come along with copied PDF text. For a whole PDF, our PDF to Text tool extracts text with paragraphs already rebuilt.
