How to use the online timer
- Tap a quick time such as 5 or 10 minutes, or type hours, minutes and seconds.
- Press Start (or the space bar). Press again to pause and resume, and use +1 min to add time while it runs.
- When time is up, the alarm sounds, the screen flashes and phones vibrate. Choose beep, bell, a soft chime or silent.
- Tap ⛶ for a huge full-screen display, ideal for classrooms, presentations and workouts.
Reliable in the background
The timer counts against the clock rather than counting ticks, so it stays accurate even when your browser slows down a background tab. The remaining time shows in the tab title, and a running timer survives a page reload. On supported phones the screen is kept awake while the timer runs. For the alarm to play, keep the tab open and the device's sound on; some phones silence web audio when the screen is locked, so leave the screen on for important timers.
Nothing is installed and nothing is sent anywhere: the timer runs entirely in your browser.
Will the alarm ring if I switch tabs?
Yes, as long as the tab stays open. Browsers may delay background updates slightly, but the alarm uses the real clock.
Why is there no sound on my iPhone?
Check that the ring/silent switch is off and the volume is up. iOS only allows sound after you tap Start, which unlocks audio for the page.
Can I set a timer longer than an hour?
Yes, up to 99 hours. Type the hours in the Hours box.
