🔒 The camera only turns on after you press Start, and nothing is uploaded. Photos and videos stay on your device.

Camera is off

How to test your webcam

  1. Press Start camera and allow access when the browser asks.
  2. If you see yourself, the camera works. The panel shows the camera name, resolution and the frame rate it actually delivers.
  3. Try other cameras and resolutions from the lists, and take a test photo if you like.
  4. Press Turn off when done; the camera light should go out.

If the camera does not work

A black picture or an error usually has a simple cause. Permission denied: click the camera icon in the address bar and allow access, and on macOS check System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera for your browser; on Windows check Settings → Privacy → Camera. Camera in use: close Zoom, Teams, Skype, OBS or other tabs that may hold the camera. No camera found: check the USB connection, a physical privacy shutter or a keyboard key that disables the webcam on some laptops.

Low frame rates (under 20 fps) are usually caused by poor lighting, because cameras lengthen exposure in the dark; add light in front of you for smoother video calls. The test runs entirely in your browser and the image is never uploaded or recorded.

FAQ

Is this webcam test private?

Yes. The video stays on your device and nothing is recorded or sent.

Why is my webcam image dark or grainy?

Not enough light. Face a window or lamp; a brighter scene gives sharper, smoother video.

How do I test my microphone too?

Use the mic test page, which shows a live level meter and plays back a short recording.
