How to record your voice online
- Press Start recording and allow microphone access when your browser asks.
- Speak; the live waveform and level meter show your volume. Aim for the green zone, with peaks just reaching yellow.
- Press Stop. Each take appears in the list with a player. Download it in the browser's format (WebM/Opus or M4A) or as an uncompressed WAV.
- Record as many takes as you like; nothing is saved anywhere until you download.
Good recordings, privately
The recorder uses your browser's MediaRecorder to compress audio on your device, so recordings are never uploaded and there is no account or time limit. Noise suppression and echo cancellation, built into the browser, are on by default and help in noisy rooms and on laptops; turn them off for music or when you want the natural sound of the room. The level is shown in dBFS (decibels relative to full scale): 0 is the maximum before distortion, normal speech typically reads −30 to −15.
For clearer voice recordings, get close to the microphone (a hand's width for headsets, 15–30 cm for desk mics), record in a room with soft furnishings, and avoid fans or air-conditioning noise. Choose WAV for editing in audio software and the compressed format for sharing by message or email. Use the audio cutter to trim the start and end or to convert to MP3.
Where are my recordings saved?
Only in this page's memory until you download them. Closing the tab discards them.
Can I record on my phone?
Yes. Mobile browsers support microphone recording; keep the screen on while recording.
How do I get an MP3?
Download WAV, then convert it with the WAV to MP3 converter.
