How to convert an hourly wage to a salary
- Enter your hourly rate. "Per hour" is already selected.
- Set the hours you work per week and the weeks you are paid per year. Use 50 or fewer weeks if you take unpaid time off.
- Read the equivalent yearly, monthly, semi-monthly, biweekly, weekly and daily pay.
The formula
Annual salary = hourly rate × hours per week × paid weeks per year. At 40 hours and 52 weeks there are 2,080 paid hours, so a quick rule is to double the hourly rate and add three zeros: 25 an hour ≈ 50,000 a year (exactly 52,000). Part-time at 20 hours a week halves it. Monthly pay is the yearly amount divided by 12, which is 4.33 weeks, not 4.
| Hourly | Yearly (40 h × 52 wk) |
|---|---|
| 15.00 | 31,200 |
| 18.00 | 37,440 |
| 20.00 | 41,600 |
| 22.00 | 45,760 |
| 25.00 | 52,000 |
| 30.00 | 62,400 |
| 35.00 | 72,800 |
| 40.00 | 83,200 |
| 50.00 | 104,000 |
| 75.00 | 156,000 |
Overtime, tips, shift differentials and bonuses are not included; add them separately. When comparing an hourly job with a salaried one, remember that salaried roles often include paid holidays and benefits, while hourly roles may pay overtime. Figures are gross, before tax.
