How to roll a d20
- Press Roll (or the R key) to roll one twenty-sided die. A natural 20 is outlined in green and a natural 1 in red.
- Add your modifier, such as +5 for a skill check or attack bonus, and the total is calculated for you.
- Tick Advantage to roll two d20s and keep the higher, as Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition does when you have advantage. For disadvantage, type
2d20kl1to keep the lower. - Need more dice? Type notation such as
1d20+3,2d20kh1or3d6.
The d20 in tabletop games
The twenty-sided die is the heart of Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder and many other role-playing games: you roll it for attacks, saving throws and ability checks, add a modifier and compare the total with a target number. Every face has a 5% chance. Rolling with advantage raises the chance of a natural 20 to 9.75% and lowers the chance of a natural 1 to 0.25%, which is why it feels so powerful.
This roller uses your browser's cryptographically secure random generator with rejection sampling, so every number from 1 to 20 is exactly equally likely, which is more than can be said for many cheap plastic dice. It is perfect for online sessions over video chat, for when you forgot your dice bag, or for settling an argument about whose d20 is cursed.
Rolls are made locally and never stored.
