In Ireland the tax is called VAT. To add 23%, multiply the net price by 1.23: €100.00 becomes €123.00. To remove it, divide the gross price by 1.23: €100.00 including VAT is €81.30 net plus €18.70 VAT. A common mistake is to take 23% off the gross price, which removes too much; the VAT share of a gross price is 23/123, or 18.70%.

Irish invoices must show the VAT rate and amount for each line. VAT is charged at the rate in force on the date of supply, so check Revenue’s rate list when budget changes take effect.

Standard and reduced rates checked on 20 October 2026 against Revenue (revenue.ie). Rates can change with each budget; the rate box is editable if a change takes effect.

FAQ

What is the VAT rate in Ireland?

The standard rate is 23%. Reduced rates of 13.5%, 9% and 4.8% apply to certain goods and services, and many foods are zero-rated.

How do I remove VAT from a price in Ireland?

Divide the price including VAT by 1.23. For example, €123.00 ÷ 1.23 = €100.00 net, so the VAT is €23.00.

Does the calculator save my rate?
