How to preview a social media post

    1. Type or paste your post. Line breaks, emoji, hashtags, mentions and links are shown as they would appear.
    2. Add your name and handle, and optionally up to four images and an avatar.
    3. Compare the mock-ups for X, LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook and Threads. Each shows where the post is cut off with "see more", and a character count against that platform's limit.
    4. Check the list at the top: first-line length, number of hashtags, X's 280-character limit and links in Instagram captions.

    Write for the cut-off

Most people decide whether to read a post from the part they see before "more". Instagram shows about 125 characters (two lines) of a caption, LinkedIn about 210 characters or three lines on desktop and fewer on phones, and Facebook around 480 characters. So the first line has to carry the hook: the benefit, a number, a question or a bold claim. Keep the call to action near the top too, and save hashtags for the end. X is strict: 280 characters, with every link counted as 23 and emoji as 2.

Images change the layout as well: single images are cropped to roughly 16:9 on X and 1.91:1 on LinkedIn and Facebook link-style posts, while Instagram favours 4:5 portrait. Preview before you post to catch awkward crops and cut-off sentences. This is an independent mock-up for planning, not an official preview from any platform, and real layouts vary slightly between apps and screen sizes. Nothing you type or upload leaves your browser.

How many characters show before "see more" on LinkedIn?

About 210 characters or three lines on desktop, and around 140 on mobile, whichever comes first.

How long can an Instagram caption be?

Up to 2,200 characters and 30 hashtags, but only about 125 characters show before "more".

Why does X say my post is longer than it looks?

X counts every link as 23 characters and emoji and many non-Latin characters as 2.

    Are my images uploaded?

No. They are shown from your device only.
