QR Code Scanner

Scan QR codes with your camera or from an image

Images and camera video never leave your device. Codes are decoded in your browser.

…or drop / paste a screenshot or photo of a QR code

How to scan a QR code online

  1. Press Scan with camera and allow camera access, then point your phone or webcam at the code. It is read automatically.
  2. No camera? Drop a screenshot or photo of the code onto the box, choose a file, or paste an image from the clipboard.
  3. The content is shown as text with its type: a web link, Wi-Fi network, contact, email, phone number or plain text. Copy it, or open links after checking them.

Scan safely

QR codes are a popular way to hide malicious links ("quishing"): fake stickers on parking meters and restaurant tables, or codes in phishing emails that bypass link filters. Unlike your phone's camera app, this scanner never opens anything automatically. It shows the full address and its domain first, warns about link shorteners that hide the real destination and about look-alike internationalised domains, and only opens the link if you press the button.

The scanner uses your browser's built-in barcode detector where available and otherwise the open-source jsQR decoder. Decoding happens on your device: camera frames and images are not uploaded or recorded. For Wi-Fi codes, the network name and password are displayed so you can type them on a device that cannot scan, such as a laptop. To make your own codes, use our QR Code Generator.

How do I scan a QR code from a screenshot?

Drop the screenshot onto the page or paste it with Ctrl+V or Cmd+V. The code is read from the image.

Why can't it read my code?

Make sure the whole code is in view with its white border, in focus and evenly lit. Very small or damaged codes may need a closer photo.

Can I see a Wi-Fi password from a QR code?

Yes. Wi-Fi codes contain the network name and password, which are shown after scanning.
