How to practise times tables

  1. Choose which tables to practise, from 1 to 12, or press All for a full mixed test.
  2. Pick the number of questions, the order (mixed, in order or division facts) and whether to race the clock.
  3. Type each answer and press Enter, or use the on-screen number pad on a phone or tablet. Wrong answers show the correct fact straight away.
  4. At the end, see your score and the facts to practise again, then share a challenge link so a friend or sibling can try to beat your points.

Tips for learning multiplication facts

Children usually learn the 2, 5 and 10 times tables first, then 3, 4 and 8, and finally 6, 7, 9, 11 and 12. In England, pupils are expected to know all tables up to 12 × 12 by the end of Year 4, when they take the multiplication tables check. Short, frequent practice works far better than long sessions: five minutes a day, focusing on the facts that are still slow, builds quick recall. Mixed order is important, because reciting a table in sequence is not the same as knowing 7 × 8 on its own.

Use patterns to make facts stick: multiplication works both ways (3 × 8 is the same as 8 × 3), the 9s digits add up to 9, and doubling the 2s gives the 4s and doubling again gives the 8s. Division facts are the same facts backwards, so practise them once multiplication is secure. The chart helps with spotting patterns: tap a number to highlight its row and column. Scores are calculated in your browser, and nothing about your child is recorded.

What order should times tables be learned in?

Commonly 10, 2 and 5 first, then 3, 4 and 8, then 6, 7, 9, 11 and 12.

How are points calculated?

Up to 1,000 points for accuracy, plus a time bonus when racing the clock, which is largest for a perfect score.

Is this like the Year 4 multiplication check?

It is similar practice. The official check gives 6 seconds per question for 25 questions on tables up to 12.
