How to print polar graph paper
- The paper type is already selected. Choose A4, US Letter, A5, Legal or A3 and portrait or landscape.
- Adjust the spacing, line colour, line weight and margins until the preview looks right.
- Press Print / Save as PDF, or download the page as SVG or PNG.
Uses for polar graph paper
Polar graph paper has concentric circles for the distance from the centre and radial lines for the angle, so points are plotted as (r, θ) instead of (x, y). It is used in A-level and college maths for curves such as cardioids, roses and spirals, in physics for fields and antenna patterns, and for radar charts, compass work and circular designs like mandalas.
Radial lines are drawn at regular angles, and the spacing controls the distance between the circles.
Pages are generated as vector graphics at exact real-world sizes, so they print sharply. In the print dialog set scale to 100% (not "fit to page") so the spacing is accurate. You can also change the colour and line weight, add a header for name and date, download an SVG or PNG, or switch to any other paper type. Everything is generated in your browser.
FAQ
What is polar graph paper used for?
Plotting polar equations, angles and circular patterns, from maths homework to engineering and art.
How do I plot a point in polar coordinates?
Go out r circles from the centre along the line at angle θ.
Can I change the number of circles?
Yes, change the spacing: smaller spacing gives more circles.
