Printable arithmetic worksheets with answers

How to make a maths worksheet

  1. Choose the operation (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division or a mix) and the size of the numbers, from single digits to four digits, or times tables up to 12.
  2. Choose how many problems, vertical column layout or horizontal, and whether to allow negative answers and carrying or borrowing.
  3. Give it a title, press New problems until you like the set, then print it or save it as a PDF. The answer key prints on a separate page.

Getting the most from worksheets

Arithmetic fluency comes from regular, short practice at the right level. Start where a child is confident, then step up one change at a time: from no carrying to carrying, from two digits to three, or from addition to subtraction. Turning off carrying and borrowing gives gentle practice in column methods first, and vertical layout matches the written column methods taught in most primary schools. Division problems always divide exactly, with no remainders, so children can focus on the facts.

Every press of New problems makes a fresh random set, so you can print a different sheet each day, or give each pupil in a group their own sheet to prevent copying. Timing a sheet of 20 facts and trying to beat the time next day is a motivating way to build speed once accuracy is secure. For instant feedback on screen, try our Times Tables practice. Worksheets are created in your browser; nothing is uploaded or stored.

Can I print the answers separately?

Yes. The answer key is placed on a new page when printed, so you can keep it back.

Are the division problems exact?

Yes, every division has a whole-number answer with no remainder.

What does "no carrying" mean?

Each column adds up to 9 or less (or never needs borrowing in subtraction), which is easier for beginners.
