How to preview Markdown
- Type or paste Markdown on the left. The formatted preview updates as you type; on a phone it appears below the editor.
- Use the toolbar for bold, italic, headings, links, lists and inline code, or type the syntax directly.
- Switch to HTML to see the generated markup, then copy it into a CMS, email or web page.
- Download a complete, styled
.htmlpage, or save your text as a.mdfile. Your draft is also kept in your browser between visits.
Supported syntax
The previewer uses the marked parser with GitHub-Flavoured Markdown (GFM), the dialect used on GitHub, GitLab, Reddit-style editors and most documentation sites. It supports headings (# to ######), emphasis, links and images, ordered and unordered lists, task lists (- [x]), block quotes, fenced code blocks with a language name, tables with column alignment, horizontal rules and strikethrough (~~text~~).
The status line shows a word count and an estimated reading time, which is useful for README files, blog posts and documentation pages.
Safe and private
All rendered HTML is passed through DOMPurify, which removes scripts and other dangerous markup, so pasting untrusted Markdown cannot run code on this page. Your text is processed locally in your browser and never uploaded.
How do I make a line break in Markdown?
Leave a blank line to start a new paragraph. For a line break inside a paragraph, end the line with two spaces or a backslash.
How do I write a table?
Separate cells with pipes and put a row of dashes under the header, for example | Name | Age | then |---|---|. Add a colon (---: or :---:) to align a column right or centre.
Can I use raw HTML?
Yes, simple HTML such as <details>, <kbd> and works. Scripts, event handlers and other unsafe elements are stripped.
