How to convert a color
- Type or paste a color in any format:
#1e90ff,1e90ff,rgb(30, 144, 255),hsl(210 100% 56%),cmyk(88%, 44%, 0%, 0%),oklch(65% 0.18 255), or a CSS name likedodgerblue. Or use the color picker. - Every other format appears instantly. Tap Copy next to the one you need.
- Below, tap a swatch to copy a lighter tint or darker shade of the same hue.
Color formats explained
HEX and RGB describe the same thing: the amount of red, green and blue from 0 to 255, written in hexadecimal or decimal. HSL (hue, saturation, lightness) and HSV/HSB (hue, saturation, value/brightness) are easier for people to adjust: change only the lightness to get a lighter version of the same color. CMYK is used for print; the conversion here is the simple device-independent formula, so for professional printing use your printer's ICC profile. OKLCH is a modern perceptual space supported in CSS: equal changes in lightness look equally different to the eye, which makes it ideal for building consistent palettes and accessible color scales.
The sample box shows your color with whichever text color, black or white, has the higher WCAG contrast ratio, and the ratios are listed so you can check accessibility at a glance. Alpha transparency in 8-digit hex and rgba() is preserved.
All conversions run locally in your browser.
How do I convert HEX to RGB?
Split the hex code into three pairs and convert each from base 16: #1E90FF → 1E = 30, 90 = 144, FF = 255, so rgb(30, 144, 255).
Why does my CMYK print look different?
Screens mix light and printers mix ink, and every printer and paper behaves differently. The formula conversion is a starting point; proof with your print shop.
What is OKLCH and should I use it?
OKLCH is a perceptually uniform color space available in all modern browsers. It is great for design systems because lightness is consistent across hues.
