How to build your CV or résumé

  1. Fill in your name, the job title you are targeting, your contact details and a short profile.
  2. Add your jobs, most recent first, with dates and achievements, one per line. Add education, skills and an extra section such as languages or certifications.
  3. Choose a template and accent colour. The preview updates as you type.
  4. Press Print / save PDF and choose "Save as PDF". Your draft is saved in this browser; export it as a file to keep a backup or move to another device.

Tips for a CV that gets interviews

Recruiters often spend well under a minute on a first read, so make the top third count: a clear target title and a profile that says what you do, for whom, and one result. Under each job, write achievements rather than duties, start each bullet with a strong verb, and add numbers wherever you can: "Cut onboarding time from 6 weeks to 3" beats "Responsible for onboarding". The counter under the preview shows how many of your bullets include a number.

Tailor the CV to each role by mirroring the important words from the job advert, which also helps with applicant tracking systems (ATS). These templates use real text in a single column with standard headings, which ATS software reads well; avoid putting key information in images or tables. Keep it to one or two pages, use the same date format throughout, and leave out a photo, date of birth and marital status in the UK and US. Copy as plain text when an application form asks you to paste your CV. Everything stays on your device.

What is the difference between a CV and a résumé?

In the UK, a CV is the standard one- to two-page job application document. In the US, that is called a résumé, and a CV is a longer academic record.

Is this CV ATS-friendly?

Yes. It uses selectable text, standard section headings and a simple layout that applicant tracking systems can read.
